Volandis app for construction and infrastructure
Working safely on construction sites is a significant challenge, because during construction you must constantly take into account various rules and changing situations. Hence the Volandis app. It provides answers to questions that the construction worker has on-site regarding safety.
Volandis is a knowledge and advisory center for the construction and infrastructure sector in Harderwijk. They are working towards a thriving construction and infrastructure sector, where employees work safely, enjoy their work, and plan ahead on time. It was found that construction workers often face questions about how to work safely on the construction site. Therefore, Volandis engaged Novaware to develop a suitable solution that effectively and quickly answers these questions.
Novaware developed the Volandis app. This app is specifically intended for employees on the construction site. The app provides answers to questions that employees have about safety. This includes questions about working on a scaffold or working with toxic substances. In addition, the app provides an overview of the existing apps related to safety, so that employees have additional tools to work more safely.
Chatbot
To answer questions as quickly and effectively as possible, a chatbot was developed using the Dialogflow service. Machine learning was used to ensure that the chatbot learns and becomes smarter over time, enabling it to anticipate different phrasings of questions.
However, even a chatbot is not always infallible. Therefore, questions that the chatbot cannot answer directly are routed to Umbraco CMS. Volandis employees can then evaluate the question and provide an answer. Once the question is answered, the employee who asked the question receives a push notification with the answer. The answer is also added to the chatbot's "brain" so that it can learn from it and improve its ability to answer similar questions in the future.
Xamarin
The Volandis app was developed using the cross-platform technology Xamarin. This technology allows for simultaneous development for both Android and IOS platforms, speeding up app development and making projects easier to maintain. Performance is also good, as Xamarin utilizes native components.
