Scan app for supporters of PEC Zwolle
Supporters of PEC Zwolle will now enter the supporters' home using the access management system developed by Novaware.
As a football fan, you naturally want to connect with your favorite club. You can do that through the supporters' association. PEC Zwolle also has a supporters' association. The supporters' association of PEC Zwolle tries to get as many fans as possible to the matches, whether they are at home or away by bus to the opponent's stadium. But supporters' associations are also responsible for various other matters. These include ball boys and girls, open days, forum nights, and they even have their own youth department consisting of the kids and junior clubs.
Why a Scan app?
The supporters' home of the supporters' association is not freely accessible, but is open at certain times for members. When you become a member of the supporters' association of PEC Zwolle, you will receive your own membership card with a unique QR code and your membership number. This card will be scanned upon entry. This way, the supporters' association knows who is inside the supporters' home.
Matching cards
Of course, with a Scan app, there are also cards to be scanned. We have designed these cards for the supporters' association in PEC Zwolle style.
How does the Scan app work?
The Scan app is a Progressive Web App. Such a PWA is actually a website in the browser that looks like a mobile application. With the Scan app, the supporters' association can scan membership cards and immediately see if someone is allowed to enter or not, and also if a card has been recently scanned. This is to prevent membership cards from being passed on to non-members. After the set time has elapsed, the card can be scanned again. The supporters' association can change this themselves.
In the backend, the association can import a membership list based on a CSV file. This can be easily done by the administrator prior to an event. Afterwards, as an administrator, you can choose to delete the scan history.
Progressieve Web App
Because we built the Scan app as a Progressive Web App, users can simply access it by going to the URL and logging in with their own login code to activate the Scan app. The login code is automatically generated by the CMS. Once a user is logged in, they have the experience that you are used to with a regular mobile application. The PWA can be used on any device (mobile/desktop) and operating system (Android/IOS) and even has options to function without an internet connection.
The Scan app is built on the Umbraco CMS. Therefore, the supporters' association of PEC Zwolle also has all the conveniences that Umbraco offers in terms of user-friendliness and flexibility when it comes to content such as branding, themes, and user management.
Vue JS/ ZXing library
The frontend of the Scan app is built using Vue. Vue is an open-source frontend JavaScript framework for developing user interfaces for Single Page Applications (SPAs). To recognize barcodes and QR codes, we use the ZXing library. By using the device's camera (such as a mobile phone), you can scan the code.
Access control with the Scanapp
In this case, we used the Scan app to regulate access to the supporters' home of PEC Zwolle. However, the Scan app is not limited to just football matters. We have also used the Scan app for automated access to the Open Air Swimming Pool in Zwolle, and it was the solution for access to open days at the Christian University of Applied Sciences in Ede. Our Scan app is, therefore, a ready-to-use, solid solution for access management.
